Sarracenia ‘Tess’ is a bold and dramatic hybrid carnivorous plant prized for its deep burgundy pitchers and impressive height. Pitcher Design:
The pitchers are tall, upright, and trumpet-shaped, growing from a rosette base. Each pitcher features a gracefully curved hood that helps protect the trap while enhancing its insect-catching efficiency.

Colouration:
Under bright light, ‘Tess’ develops intense deep-red to burgundy tones, darkening to near black with maturity. Its glossy finish and vivid pigmentation give it a dramatic, sculptural presence.

Growth Habit:
Unlike compact varieties, ‘Tess’ has a commanding vertical form. It thrives as a feature plant in bog gardens, large pots, or outdoor collections where its full stature can be appreciated.

Care Instructions

Light:
Requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for strong growth and rich colour. Can also thrive under high-intensity grow lights indoors.

Water:
Keep soil consistently moist using only rainwater, distilled, or reverse-osmosis water. Avoid tap or mineral water. Maintain the pot in a shallow tray of water for best results.

Soil:
Grow in an acidic, nutrient-free mix of sphagnum moss and perlite or silica sand. Do not fertilise.

Humidity:
Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts well to outdoor and greenhouse environments.

Dormancy:
As a temperate hybrid, ‘Tess’ requires a winter dormancy period. Expect older pitchers to die back before new growth resumes in spring.
