Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Weser x Jaumavensis'
Also known as: Weser hybrid, Pink Star Butterwort (informally)
Origin: A cultivated hybrid between Pinguicula 'Weser' (a popular hybrid of P. ehlersiae x moranensis) and Pinguicula jaumavensis, a species native to the Jaumave region in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
This compact hybrid butterwort blends the vibrant colour potential of 'Weser' with the tighter, petite rosette form of P. jaumavensis. Leaves are typically rounded to spoon-shaped and may appear pale green to deep pink, depending on light intensity. Glandular leaf surfaces produce a sticky mucilage to trap small insects such as fungus gnats and fruit flies. Under bright conditions, the plant can develop a deep blush or even solid pink tone across the whole rosette—making it a standout among carnivorous plants.
Light: Bright indirect light, filtered sun, or artificial grow lights (5000–6500K). Avoid harsh direct sunlight which may scorch leaves.
Water: Only use low-mineral water such as distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Watering:
Carnivorous phase: Keep the medium consistently damp but not soggy.
Succulent phase: Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.
Humidity: 50–85% is ideal. Gentle airflow helps prevent mold and encourages healthy growth.
Temperature: Prefers 15–25°C. Protect from extreme cold—below 10°C may stress the plant.
Feeding: Catches its own prey. In indoor setups, feed lightly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes every few weeks.
Dormancy: No true dormancy, but leaf shape may change seasonally, becoming tighter and less glandular in lower light or drier periods.
Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With the right light and time, it will develop its full coloration. Grows to around 4–7 cm across when mature.
Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid. The cup maintains high humidity during shipping and acclimation. Includes a protective top layer (e.g. sphagnum or sterile medium).
Medium: Premium carnivorous plant soil—low-nutrient, airy, and moisture-retentive mix.
Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.
Avoid wetting the leaves directly—it can wash off the sticky mucilage and encourage mold.
Only use mineral-free water—tap water may lead to root damage or mineral buildup.
Ensure gentle airflow—especially in high humidity environments, this keeps the plant healthy and prevents fungal issues.
