Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Weser x Fraser'

Also known as: Weser-Fraser Hybrid, Pink Rosette Butterwort (informally)

Origin: A cultivated hybrid of Pinguicula 'Weser' (a classic ehlersiae x moranensis cross) and Pinguicula moranensis 'Fraser'. Both parents are native to Mexico and well-known for their vivid color and reliability in cultivation.

Pinguicula 'Weser x Fraser' is a compact and attractive hybrid forming a flat, circular rosette of fleshy leaves that range from bright green to deep pink under strong light. The leaves are covered in glistening, sticky glands used to catch and digest small insects like fungus gnats, helping to reduce pests in indoor setups. This hybrid combines the bold coloration of 'Weser' with the robust growth and size of 'Fraser', making it an excellent centerpiece for terrariums, windowsills, or grow shelves.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sunlight. Grows well under LED grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.

  • Succulent phase: Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Maintain light airflow to prevent mold and rot.

Temperature: Prefers 16–25°C. Avoid exposure to frost or temperatures below 10°C.

Feeding: Feeds naturally on small flying insects. In insect-free environments, feed sparingly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes monthly.

Dormancy: No true dormancy, though growth may slow or leaves may thicken during cooler seasons.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With the right light and time, it will develop its full coloration. Mature plants typically reach 5–8 cm across.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with a ventilated lid for humidity retention during transit. Top layer includes protective moss or sterile media.

Medium: Specially blended carnivorous plant mix—low in nutrients, breathable, and moisture-retentive.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid overhead watering—wet leaves can lose their sticky coating and become mold-prone.

  • Only use mineral-free water—tap water may cause salt buildup and harm the roots.

  • Provide gentle airflow—prevents mold and keeps the plant in optimal condition.
