Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Marciano'
Also known as: Marciano Butterwort
Origin: A cultivated hybrid or form of Mexican Pinguicula, likely selected for its compact growth and vivid coloration. The exact lineage is not widely published, but it displays traits commonly seen in P. moranensis hybrids.
Pinguicula 'Marciano' is a striking and colourful Mexican butterwort that forms a tight, symmetrical rosette of fleshy, rounded leaves. Under bright light, the leaves can develop a rich pink or rose blush, contrasting beautifully with the green base. As with all butterworts, the leaf surface is covered in sticky glands that trap and digest small insects like fungus gnats. Its consistent growth, small size, and high ornamental value make 'Marciano' a great option for terrariums, grow shelves, or windowsill collections.
Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sunlight. Performs well under LED grow lights (5000–6500K) to enhance colour.
Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Watering:
Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil evenly moist.
Succulent phase: Let the surface dry slightly between waterings.
Humidity: 60–85% preferred. Ensure light airflow to reduce the risk of mold or mildew.
Temperature: Thrives between 16–25°C. Avoid exposure to frost or extreme cold.
Feeding: Naturally traps small insects. Indoors, feed once a month with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes (without additives) if prey is unavailable.
Dormancy: No true dormancy. May slow growth or produce tighter, fleshier leaves in cooler seasons or lower light.
Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With good light and time, it will develop its signature pink tones. Mature size is typically 4–7 cm across.
Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to retain humidity. Includes protective top layer of moss or sterile media.
Medium: Carnivorous plant mix—low-nutrient, breathable, and moisture-retentive.
Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.
Avoid watering directly onto the leaves—to protect the sticky glands and reduce the risk of mold.
Use only mineral-free water—tap water may cause salt buildup and root damage.
Provide airflow—especially in humid conditions, to keep the plant healthy and prevent fungal issues.
