Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Emarginata x Superba'
Also known as: Emarginata-Superba Hybrid Butterwort
Origin: A cultivated Mexican hybrid between Pinguicula emarginata, known for its delicate, notched leaves, and Pinguicula moranensis ‘Superba’, a larger, broad-leaved form selected for its size and vigour.
Pinguicula 'Emarginata x Superba' is a beautifully balanced hybrid that forms a tight, flat rosette of fleshy, slightly scalloped leaves. Under bright light, the leaves develop a warm blush of pink or red, enhancing their soft green base. As with all butterworts, the leaf surface is covered in glistening glands that trap and digest tiny insects such as fungus gnats. This hybrid combines the charm and compact form of emarginata with the bold structure and colour of Superba, resulting in a standout cultivar for windowsills and terrariums alike.
Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sunlight. Also thrives under full-spectrum LED grow lights (5000–6500K).
Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Watering:
Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil evenly moist.
Succulent phase: Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Ensure gentle airflow to prevent mold and support healthy growth.
Temperature: Performs best in 16–25°C. Protect from frost and extreme heat.
Feeding: Captures small insects naturally. Indoors, feed monthly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes (without additives) if prey is not available.
Dormancy: No true dormancy. May produce tighter, more succulent leaves in response to lower light or cooler conditions.
Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With time and strong light, it will develop full coloration. Mature plants typically reach 6–10 cm across.
Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to maintain humidity during transit. Top layer includes protective moss or sterile media.
Medium: Low-nutrient carnivorous plant mix—moisture-retentive and breathable.
Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.
Avoid wetting the leaves directly—to preserve the sticky surface and prevent rot.
Only use mineral-free water—tap water may cause salt buildup and root damage.
Maintain airflow—especially in humid environments, to reduce the risk of mold.
