Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Aphrodite'

Also known as: Aphrodite Butterwort, Goddess Rosette (informally)

Origin: A cultivated Mexican hybrid, believed to be a cross between Pinguicula moctezumae and Pinguicula moranensis, combining the best traits of both parent species.

Pinguicula 'Aphrodite' is a spectacular and elegant hybrid known for its large, slender leaves that form a long, arching rosette. Under bright light, the leaves often develop a lovely blush of pink or soft red at the tips. Each leaf is covered in tiny, glistening glands that trap small insects such as fungus gnats and fruit flies. This variety is especially prized for its graceful form, rapid growth, and stunning contrast when displayed in bright lighting—making it a favourite among collectors and beginners alike.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sun. Also thrives under full-spectrum LED grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water. Avoid tap water.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil consistently moist.

  • Succulent phase: Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings.

Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Provide gentle airflow to prevent rot and fungal growth.

Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C. Protect from frost and extreme heat.

Feeding: Catches small insects naturally. In low-insect environments, feed sparingly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes once a month.

Dormancy: No true dormancy. May slow down slightly during cooler months or produce slightly smaller leaves.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With the right light and time, it will develop its full coloration. Mature plants typically reach 10–15 cm across, making it one of the larger-leaved butterwort hybrids.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to maintain humidity during transit. Top layer includes moss or sterile medium for protection.

Medium: Low-nutrient, moisture-retentive carnivorous plant mix—airily structured to support healthy roots.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid overhead watering—wet leaves may lose their sticky surface and become prone to rot.

  • Only use mineral-free water—tap water may cause root damage and salt buildup.

  • Ensure airflow—especially around large rosettes, to reduce the risk of fungal problems.
