Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Fraser Beaut'

Also known as: Fraser Beauty, Fraser’s Butterwort (informally)

Origin: A cultivated Mexican hybrid, likely derived from Pinguicula moranensis lineage, selected for its vibrant coloration and symmetrical rosette.

Pinguicula 'Fraser Beaut' is a vivid and compact hybrid butterwort that forms a neat rosette of flat, broad leaves. The foliage is typically a bright, lime green to deep pink—depending on light intensity—and often displays a soft gradient from base to tip. The leaves are covered in mucilage-producing glands that trap and digest small insects like fungus gnats. Known for its consistent symmetry and strong coloration, this hybrid is well-suited to both display and function, especially in enclosed environments like terrariums or covered pots.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sunlight. Performs beautifully under full-spectrum LED grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Only use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water—never tap water.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil evenly moist.

  • Succulent phase: Let the top layer dry slightly before rewatering.

Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Maintain airflow to discourage mold and mildew.

Temperature: Best between 16–25°C. Avoid frost and cold drafts.

Feeding: Feeds on small insects naturally. In prey-free setups, occasional feeding with dried bloodworms or fish flakes (without additives) every few weeks is fine.

Dormancy: No true dormancy. Leaf shape may shift slightly during seasonal transitions.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With the right light and time, it will develop its full coloration. Typically grows to 5–8 cm in diameter when mature.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to maintain humidity. Top layer includes moss or sterile medium for transit protection.

Medium: Specialised carnivorous plant mix—low nutrient, breathable, and moisture-retentive.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid wetting the leaves directly—this can remove the sticky digestive coating.

  • Use only mineral-free water—regular tap water may damage roots or promote algae.

  • Provide good airflow—especially in humid environments, to reduce fungal risks.
