Origin:
Native to the southeastern United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, Drosera capillaris grows in wet pine savannas, bogs, and sandy, acidic soils.

Description:
Drosera capillaris forms a low-growing, prostrate rosette up to 7 cm in diameter, with spoon-shaped leaves densely covered in glistening, sticky glandular hairs that trap small insects. In strong light, the foliage often flushes red or pink, creating a vivid display. During the warmer months, it produces delicate pink—and occasionally white—flowers on slender stems. Compact, colourful, and easy to grow, it is ideal for terrariums, bog gardens, or sunny windowsills.

Growing Requirements

Light:
Full sun to bright, indirect light for 6–8 hours daily. Strong light enhances red and pink coloration.

Water:
Distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water only.

Watering:

• Active growth: Keep soil consistently moist; a shallow tray of water beneath the pot works well.

• Cooler seasons: Reduce watering slightly but never allow the soil to dry.

Humidity:
50–80% preferred but adaptable if soil moisture is maintained.

Temperature:
Ideal 21–29 °C; sensitive to frost.

Feeding:
Naturally traps small insects. Indoors, feed monthly with tiny prey such as fruit flies, fish flakes, or crushed dried bloodworms.

Dormancy:
No true dormancy; may slow growth slightly in cooler months.
