Nepenthes reinwardtiana, also known as Reinwardt’s Pitcher Plant, is a tropical carnivorous vine admired for its slender pitchers and unusual “eye spots” found inside the traps. Native to Borneo, Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia, it grows across a wide elevation range and adapts well to both lowland and intermediate conditions. This species is a climber, producing vines that can reach several metres in length when supported.

Plant Features

  • 1 juvenile Nepenthes reinwardtiana supplied in a sealed grow cup.

  • Cup size: approximately 5 cm diameter × 7 cm height.

  • Juvenile plants are at an early stage of growth, making them easier to acclimate to your own setup.

  • Famous for the distinct red “eye spots” inside its pitchers.

  • Suitable for terrariums, greenhouses, or high-humidity indoor environments.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light or strong artificial grow lights.

  • Temperature: Thrives between 20–28 °C; enjoys warm days with slightly cooler nights.

  • Humidity: High humidity is essential for healthy pitcher production.

  • Water: Use only distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the medium moist but not waterlogged.

  • Soil: Best grown in a free-draining carnivorous plant mix such as sphagnum moss with perlite or orchid bark.

  • Feeding: Naturally attracts insects to its pitchers; supplemental feeding is optional.

Notes

Your plant will arrive in its protective grow cup to ensure safe transport. Being juvenile, it will continue to establish and thrive as it acclimates to its new environment.

What is a Tissue Culture?

A tissue culture vessel is a sterile, transparent container (5 cm diameter x 7 cm height) that holds multiple young plants (typically 3 or more) grown under laboratory conditions.

These vessels provide a carefully controlled environment, keeping the plants healthy and contaminant-free until they're ready to transition to standard growing conditions.

Quick Hardening Steps:

  1. Open Lid Gradually: Slightly open the cup to slowly reduce humidity.
  2. Maintain Humidity: Gradually decrease humidity over 2–4 weeks.
  3. Indirect Light: Start with gentle, indirect lighting.
  4. Moist Soil: Keep media damp, never wet.
  • Monitor Closely: Slowly increase airflow and light exposure.

What is a Soil Cup?

Each transparent carnivorous cup (5 cm diameter x 7 cm height) contains a juvenile carnivorous plant freshly transitioned from tissue culture.

Inside, you'll find a young carnivorous plant planted securely in special growing media soil that replicates their natural habitat.

This carefully balanced environment maintains optimal humidity, aiding the delicate plants during their crucial hardening-off stage.

Perfect for both novice growers and experienced collectors, these cups provide a simple and effective way to cultivate and enjoy captivating insect-eating plants
