Dionaea muscipula ‘Diablo’ is a striking Venus flytrap selection celebrated for its intense coloration and bold trap presentation. In strong light the traps flush deep red—often approaching maroon to near‑black—with long, widely spaced cilia (“teeth”) and a semi‑erect habit that really shows them off. Each sealed cup contains 1 or more plants, offering excellent value and the potential for a small clump.

Origin
All Venus flytraps are native to the coastal plain of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina in the USA. ‘Diablo’ carries this heritage while emphasizing saturated red coloration and elongated teeth.

Tissue Culture Cup
Plants are supplied in sealed tissue‑culture cups produced under sterile conditions on a nutrient gel. This keeps them pest‑ and disease‑free during shipping and storage until you’re ready to transplant. Most cups include multiple genetically identical plantlets (“1+ plants”).

Care & Growing Conditions

  • Light: Provide bright, direct light—full sun outdoors or strong grow lights indoors—to maximize color and vigor.

  • Temperature & dormancy: Warm‑temperate growers that enjoy warm summers and cooler conditions in winter. Outdoors in cold‑winter regions, give them a winter dormancy.

  • Soil: Use a nutrient‑free carnivorous mix (e.g., sphagnum peat with perlite or silica sand). Avoid standard potting soils.

  • Water: Always use mineral‑free water (distilled, RO, or rainwater) and keep the medium evenly moist (tray method works well).

  • Feeding/Fertilizer: Do not fertilize the soil. If supplementing, feed small prey directly to the traps. Humidity: The cup maintains high humidity. Acclimate slowly to open air by loosening the lid over 1–2 weeks; extend if leaves flag

Hardening Process

  1. Gently remove ‘Diablo’ from the cup, rinse all gel from roots and leaves with purified water.

  2. Pot into a carnivorous plant mix (peat + perlite/sand).

  3. Place under a clear dome or bag to maintain humidity; vent gradually over 1–2 weeks (longer if needed).

  4. Transition to normal growing conditions once new growth is firm and vigorous.

Why Choose ‘Diablo’?

  • Deep red to near‑black traps in strong light with long, well‑spaced teeth—a dramatic, collector‑grade look.

  • Semi‑erect habit that displays traps beautifully.

  • Cups often include more than one plant for added value.

  • Tissue‑culture grown for vigor, sterility, and quality assurance.
