Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Sethos'

Also known as: Sethos Butterwort

Origin: A popular cultivated hybrid of Pinguicula ehlersiae × Pinguicula moranensis, originally bred in Europe. It combines the vivid coloration of moranensis with the compact, detailed form of ehlersiae.

Pinguicula 'Sethos' is a beautiful and reliable hybrid butterwort that forms a compact rosette of rounded, gently scalloped leaves. In bright light, the foliage develops a striking pink hue with a soft green center. The leaves are covered in sparkling, sticky glands that trap small flying insects, such as fungus gnats—making it both functional and decorative. This hybrid is highly regarded for its fast growth, strong coloration, and suitability for terrariums and sunny indoor shelves.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sun. Performs very well under LED grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil evenly moist.

  • Succulent phase: Allow the surface of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

Humidity: 60–85% is ideal. Provide gentle airflow to prevent mold and mildew.

Temperature: Grows best in 16–25°C. Avoid frost and extreme heat.

Feeding: Catches small insects naturally. Indoors, feed lightly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes monthly if no prey is available.

Dormancy: No true dormancy. May produce slightly thicker or tighter leaves in cooler or lower-light seasons.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With time and good lighting, it will develop its full pink coloration. Grows to around 5–8 cm across at maturity.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid for humidity retention. Includes moss or sterile medium on top for protection.

Medium: Carnivorous plant mix—low in nutrients, airy, and moisture-retentive.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid watering directly onto leaves—to keep the sticky surface intact and prevent fungal growth.

  • Use only mineral-free water—tap water may damage roots or cause salt buildup.

  • Provide gentle airflow—especially important in humid setups to keep your plant healthy.
