Scientific Name: Pinguicula moranensis 'White Flower'

Also known as: White-Flowered Moranensis, Snow Blossom Butterwort (informally)

Origin: A cultivated variant of Pinguicula moranensis selected for its rare white blooms, originally from the mountainous cloud forests of central Mexico.

Pinguicula moranensis 'White Flower' is a striking and unusual form of this classic Mexican species. It forms a flat rosette of wide, fleshy leaves that range from pale green to soft pink under high light. Like other butterworts, its leaves are coated in sticky glands used to trap and digest tiny flying insects such as fungus gnats. What makes this variety unique is its delicate white flower, which contrasts beautifully with the colourful foliage—a rare trait among typically pink- or purple-flowered P. moranensis forms.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light to filtered sun. Thrives under artificial grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • Succulent phase: Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings.

Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Provide light airflow to prevent rot or mold.

Temperature: Performs best in 16–25°C. Protect from cold drafts and freezing temperatures.

Feeding: Naturally captures insects. Indoors, feed sparingly with dried bloodworms or fish flakes (no additives) monthly if no natural prey is present.

Dormancy: No true dormancy. Leaf shape and size may vary seasonally with temperature and light.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With time and proper lighting, it will develop its full coloration. Mature rosettes grow to approximately 7–10 cm across.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to preserve humidity. Includes protective top layer of moss or sterile medium.

Medium: Low-nutrient carnivorous plant mix—moisture-retentive and breathable.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid wetting the leaves directly—to keep the sticky traps intact and reduce fungal risk.

  • Only use mineral-free water—tap water can lead to salt buildup and damage roots.

  • Ensure airflow—especially in high humidity setups, to prevent mold and promote healthy growth.
