Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Hanka'
Also known as: Hanka Butterwort
Origin: A cultivated hybrid of Mexican Pinguicula, believed to be a cross involving P. agnata and/or P. moranensis. Bred for bold coloration and ease of cultivation.
Pinguicula 'Hanka' is a vibrant and compact butterwort hybrid that forms a neat rosette of rounded, slightly scalloped leaves. Under strong light, the foliage transforms from pale green to vivid shades of pink and red, creating a striking contrast against its sticky, insect-trapping surface. This hybrid is known for its excellent growth rate, forgiving care requirements, and ornamental value—making it an ideal carnivorous plant for both new growers and seasoned collectors.
Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sun. Grows well under full-spectrum LED grow lights (5000–6500K) for best colour.
Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Watering:
Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil evenly moist.
Succulent phase: Allow the top of the substrate to dry slightly before rewatering.
Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Provide gentle airflow to avoid fungal issues.
Temperature: Thrives in 16–25°C. Not frost tolerant—keep above 10°C.
Feeding: Traps small insects naturally. Indoors, supplement once a month with a small amount of dried bloodworms or fish flakes (no additives) if needed.
Dormancy: No true dormancy. Leaf form may tighten slightly during cooler or darker months.
Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With time and light, it will develop strong pink to red coloration. Mature size is typically 5–8 cm across.
Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to retain humidity. Top layer includes sterile moss or protective media.
Medium: Specialised carnivorous plant soil—low nutrient, breathable, and moisture-retentive.
Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.
Avoid overhead watering—to protect the sticky leaf surface and prevent rot.
Use only mineral-free water—tap water can damage roots and promote salt buildup.
Ensure airflow—especially in humid setups, to reduce fungal risks and keep your plant healthy.
