Scientific Name: Pinguicula 'Agnata x Potosiensis'

Also known as: Agnata-Potosiensis Hybrid, Dewy Rosette Butterwort (informally)

Origin: A cultivated hybrid between Pinguicula agnata and Pinguicula potosiensis, both native to the mountainous regions of Mexico where they thrive in humid, rocky environments.

Pinguicula 'Agnata x Potosiensis' is a charming hybrid known for its neat, round rosette and glossy, lightly curled leaves. The foliage ranges from light green to blush pink depending on lighting, and is covered in glistening glandular hairs that trap tiny insects like fungus gnats and fruit flies. This hybrid brings together the bold, slightly waxy foliage of agnata with the compact size and bright color potential of potosiensis, making it a lovely and easy-to-grow choice for terrariums or bright windowsills.

Growing Requirements

Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sun. Excellent results under full-spectrum LED grow lights (5000–6500K).

Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water. Tap water is not suitable.

Watering:

  • Carnivorous phase: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.

  • Succulent phase: Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings.

Humidity: 60–85% ideal. Provide light airflow to prevent fungal growth.

Temperature: Thrives in 16–25°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts or freezing temperatures.

Feeding: Traps small insects naturally. Indoors, feed lightly with crushed dried bloodworms or fish flakes once every 2–4 weeks if no insects are present.

Dormancy: No true dormancy, though leaf shape and growth rate may change slightly with seasons.

What’s Included

Plant: Small and sometimes green in colour at this stage. With the right light and time, it will develop its full coloration. Mature plants typically reach 5–8 cm across.

Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid to maintain humidity during shipping. Includes a protective layer of moss or sterile media.

Medium: Carnivorous plant mix—low-nutrient, moisture-retentive, and airy to support healthy root development.

Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.

Beginner Tips

  • Avoid watering the leaves directly—to preserve the plant’s sticky surface and avoid mold.

  • Only use mineral-free water—to prevent root damage and salt buildup.

  • Maintain airflow—especially in high humidity, to keep plants healthy and fungus-free.
