Scientific Name: Dionaea muscipula 'FTS Maroon Monster'
Also known as: Maroon Monster Venus Flytrap
Origin: Cultivated by FlytrapStore (FTS), this named cultivar is known for its large size and intense maroon coloration.
Dionaea muscipula 'FTS Maroon Monster' is a bold, vigorous Venus Flytrap with oversized traps and deep maroon to burgundy-red coloration that extends throughout the trap interior—and sometimes the leaves. This cultivar is fast-growing, robust, and capable of producing striking colour even in moderate light, although full sun brings out its deepest reds. It’s a standout variety perfect for growers who want size and drama in one flytrap.
Light: Full sun or bright artificial lighting (5000–6500K). Requires 4–6+ hours of direct light daily for full coloration and healthy trap development.
Water: Use only distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Watering:
Growing season (spring–autumn): Keep soil moist, ideally with a shallow tray of water.
Dormant season (winter): Reduce watering; keep soil damp but not saturated. Remove from standing water.
Humidity: 40–70% preferred. Adapts well to indoor humidity with good lighting and water quality.
Temperature: Best between 20–30°C. Requires a cool dormancy period around 5–10°C for 2–3 months.
Feeding: Traps insects naturally. If grown indoors, feed one small insect (or a piece of dried bloodworm/fish flake) per trap every few weeks. Do not overfeed.
Dormancy: Yes—enters a true winter dormancy. Traps may blacken and die back; new growth resumes in spring.
Plant: One juvenile Dionaea muscipula 'FTS Maroon Monster'. May appear greenish at this stage, but will develop full maroon coloration with time and bright light. Mature trap size can exceed 5 cm.
Grow Cup: 5 cm clear plastic cup with ventilated lid for humidity control during transit. Top layer includes protective moss or sterile media.
Medium: Nutrient-free peat-based carnivorous plant mix—moisture-retentive, well-draining, and breathable.
Instructions: Step-by-step planting and care guide included.
Let traps close naturally—don’t trigger them without food.
Always use mineral-free water—tap water will damage the plant.
Don’t skip dormancy—cool, short-day winters are essential for long-term health.
